“All Your Domains Are Belong to Us!” – Google

In a not-so-surprising and what seems like a long over due move from Google, it looks like they are finally getting into the domain name registration space. You would think with everything that Google has had in place for so many years now that this would have already been released years ago… but alas, better late than never.
The interesting thing here is that Google can instantly make themselves the leader in the domain registration space, even when sites like HostGator have hosting and domain registration for over 10 million sites and GoDaddy has another 12 million customers as well.
Google Domains
Here’s what we know so far…
  1. Google Domains is currently out in beta.
  2. Private registration is available at no extra cost.
  3. You can create up to 100 email aliases for each domain.
  4. Easy domain forwarding enable on all domains.
  5. Create up to 100 sub-domains per domain.
The good news is that with the size and amount of money that Google has, they can make the domain registration and feature process much more affordable and pretty sweet if they come up with some new creative ideas. I’m sure they will eventually have domain parking as well, which could easily implement Google Adsense features for earning additional revenue.
It would also be great to see Google come out with free domain transfers to their service. This would really hurt all of their competitors and help for anyone looking to consolidate all of their domain names in one service.
The bad news is for all of the companies that are already in the domain registration business.
What are your thoughts on Google’s move to get into the domain name space and will you be ordering through their site?
