Backup Your Blog on World Backup Day!

World Backup Dayis just around the corner – March 31st. On this special day, I was reminded of the Toy Story tragedy. Who can ever forget Pixar’s tryst with disaster when the second installation of the Toy Story trilogy was completely deleted? What? You haven’t heard of it? Watch this, I tell you!
When you’re done watching, if you are half as spooked as the guys at Pixar were, then it is high time you checked your backups, and if you don’t have one, get yourself a backup service NOW!
In this high-tech life, data can vanish into thin air, without a trace, breaking not just your back and heart, but also the bank. Ironic isn’t it, that destruction is always so much quicker than construction. And, as the old adage goes, “Prevention is better than cure.” So keep backups of all the data you own. It never hurts!

Who rescued Buzz?

I was and am a huge Pixar fan. For years, Buzz, Woody and gang played with me every single night after the lights went out. Even now, they drop in once in a while and zoom me back to my carefree childhood. When I first read that Toy Story 2 was lost, I was distraught. How could they have been so careless? I would have missed out on half my childhood! Didn’t the guys at Pixar realize it? I ranted and raved. Then I got curious. Who rescued Toy Story 2? I wondered.
Guess who? A wee babe! Supervising Technical Director Garyl Susman was often working from homeas she wanted to care for her newborn baby. And her’s was the only copy of the movie that wasn’t deleted! I am sure that baby will grow up hearing how he/she was responsible for saving Toy Story 2. For me, that baby (and the mother of course) is the true hero of this story.
Just think… If not for that baby and loving mother, if not for gender equality, if not for maternity benefits, if not for childcare concerns, this film would be lost forever. If women stayed home and only blokes went to work (as they still do in many parts of the world), there would be no Toy Story 2. Shudder!
Of course, if Pixar had taken little more care and subscribed to a third-party backup service likeblogVault, Carbonite or Dropbox, such near disasters could have been avoided. The world cannot afford to lose another Woody or Buzz, so don’t think twice. Get your data a backup. Who knows? Someone might just sell your hard disk to Al’s Toy Barn. Hurry and get backed up!
