Keeping a blog up and running is a lot of work. You need to be consistent and continually writing to attract people and constantly coming up with new ideas. Still, even when you’ve got those basics honed, you might not be getting the traffic you want.
Here’s four reasons your blog isn’t catching fire.
- Too much text. Remember, even though writing longer posts gives you the opportunity to place more keywords and provide better seo juice, readers want short and simple. Engaging readers online is about keeping them focused so they want to comment; bog them down with blogs that are too long and detailed and you’ll lose them before they even think about commenting.
- The process is too complicated. Simple is always better and that’s no different when it comes to successful blogging. If the process involves logging in with Facebook and Twitter and then supplying private information or something like that, you’ll more than likely lose any prospects. True you might need to look after spam after comments start rolling when it’s easy to sign up, but the idea is to get those comments coming in first.
- You’re looking at a small market. You might think the subject matter is interesting and there might be a small number of other people who think the same, but you won’t get a big readership if the market you’re writing to is narrow. If that’s the case, you need to make a decision—change the topic to get more readers, or stay small and be comfortable with that.
- You’re not consistent. Some bloggers think they need to bombard cyberspace with text and the sheer volume will attract readers, but there’s more to it than that. A publishing schedule is what’s needed so interested readers know when they can expect your next post. Routine breeds familiarity and when your blog becomes something readers can look forward to at specific times over morning coffee, you’ll start to get a loyal readership.
Keeping the end goal in mind when you’re running a blog is important. Make sure to keep the above mentioned tips for quick reference so you’ll be sure to stay on the path to developing a consistent readership
