Most Popular WordPress Security Plugins

It seems like there is a new WordPress or plugin update that I need to install every time I login to one of my blogs. No complaints here, it’s just that if you don’t update your plugins and themes you are opening yourself to a potential world of problems. The main reason for many of these updates is because some vulnerabilities have been exposed and they are allowing outside sources to hack into your blog, which is never good.
Besides making sure your blog and plugins are always updated, one of the best ways to combat against WordPress hacking and threats is through the use of some of the most popular security plugins mentioned in the infographic below (source).
I’ve personally been using some of these plugins but have also been using VaultPress and other backup solutions to make sure a backup of the database and my content is always safe. It’s also important to note that your domain name can be hacked and compromised as well. Always make sure you have something in place to track and prevent malicious activity from all angles.
Be sure to check out the full list of popular security plugins in the infographic below. I’ve listed the top three and their descriptions for you below.
  1. SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam – Adds Captcha, an anti-spam method to WordPress on the forms for comments, registration, lost password, login or all for WP, WPMU and BuddyPress. Currently rated 3.8 out of 5 stars.
  2. WP Security Scan – Scans your WordPress installation to prevent security vulnerabilities. Currently rated 3.4 out of 5 stars.
  3. WP-DBManager – Manages your WordPress database, allows you to optimize database, repair database and backup/restore database. Supports automatic scheduling of backups and optimizing/repairing your WordPress database. Currently rated 4 out of 5 stars.
