So What Do You Do?… how many times have you heard this question in your life time? If you are a blogger or online marketer that attends a lot of trade shows and conferences, you probably hear it all the time! This question is also asked whenever you start a discussion with anyone you usually meet for the first time.
Our jobs are what we spend the majority of our lives doing… yet so many people really have no idea what we/you do!
In the past I always had “CEO/President” as my job title on my business card, along with my company name and a few web sites. Over the years my goals and focuses have changed so much that now I just have a card that says “Zac Johnson” with my email address. There’s just way too much to explain when someone comes along and asks “So What Do You Do?“.
This will be very relatable to anyone who runs an online business and when you start talking about online marketing or blogging and people just have no idea or concept of what you are talking about… so sometimes it’s easier to just say “I do online marketing” and you can let them assume whatever they like. 
You really only have a few seconds to engage with the person you are talking with to grab their interest. Answering this question is something you should practice on and you should be able to deliver an amazing answer within 15 seconds that not only tells the person what you do, but also makes them remember. “Online marketing and blogging stuff” isn’t the right answer… come up with something amazing like “I help bloggers build products targeted towards their audience so they can retire and work from home!” – Now that is an answer that will get people interested!
My good friend Joel Commjust came out with a new book called “So What Do You Do? – “Discovering the Genius Next Door with One Simple Question”“. Joel has written a ton of books and is very popular in the online marketing and affiliate space.
The concept of the new book is quite interesting and answers the questions we are talking about in this post right now… but instead of talking about what Joel does (which is also all over the place), he has profiled and interviewed people from all over the place, yet they might just be your next door neighbor!
