As everyone knows, there’s lots of people out there blogging everyday and there’s always competition in the genre you’re working in when you’re looking to place your posts. Remember, getting published on other blogs as a guest or for a few bucks will increase the traffic and page ranking for your own site. That said, here’s a few considerations you can’t afford to ignore.
Pitch your idea properly
Getting in good with a quality blog means showing you’re a professional and presenting yourself that way right from the beginning.
Remember that higher page ranking means the people running these sites don’t need to go looking for content and you’ll need to stand apart to catch their eye. Taking the time to pitch an idea properly means you’ll move to the front of the line when the editors are looking at who they want to bring on board.
Research the blog you want to write for
Don’t just read of few of the more recent posts of the blog you’re looking to write for. Take the time and read some archived text as well so you have a good idea of the direction the blog has taken in the past too. When you can tie in your pitch to the direction the people who run the site are currently taking or have taken in the past, you’re giving off a professional image that won’t go unnoticed.
Know the readership
It’s always a good idea to know your audience and when you’re looking to write for a blog that has a PR+6 or better, getting to know what the readership likes is another way in. Of course you can read the comments section of the blog you’re interested in, but taking notice of the search results to dive into this all important aspect further helps as well.
Stay current
Current ideas are generally the ones that get to the top of the list when people are considering which blog to publish. Beyond that, readers are more interested in content that deals with what’s happening currently rather than dated ideas and news. Remember, there will be competition on any blog from people that have been scouring ideas, so you might even need to take a new direction on a current trending idea.
When your look at guest blogging as a way of marketing your own blog, you’ll be able to look at writing for another site in a whole new light.
