One of the hardest things about writing a blog is looking for ideas that will grab readers on a constant basis. If you’re writing for a company or
have one of your own that provides blog marketingas one of the specialties, generating new topics without getting spammy or even worse, duplicating ideas and content, can be troublesome.
Here are a few suggestions to help you along.
Magazines
When you’re working in popular territory like home renovations, plumbing, home maintenance, etc., these are a great source of new concepts. Buy them, get them delivered, or even go to book sales looking for older ones. Just remember you need to be especially careful here.
It’s not good enough to just rewrite the articles and change the words around when you find one of these magazine articles that interests you. It’s better to use the ideas as springboards and develop your own. For example, a home renovation article might tell you about what you need to look for when you’re on the roof getting the shingles ready for the Fall and Winter. Your blog might be about safe ways to use the ladder to get up there.
Flipboard
No surprise the world of apps is full of great ways to look for blog ideas but you’ll need to know how to use them. Flipboard is an app that’s available in the iTunes store and although you can only use it on mobile devices and tablets, it’s a good way to look through all the latest news and articles on the topic you need or want to write about.
Scan Social Media
If you’re not really sure what you want to write about, finding popular topics is always a good place to start and social media works great. Look at what’s trending on Twitter and following some of the links provided will get you moving in the right direction.
There are other ways of getting a bevy of solid blog ideas and another one that really works well is right at your fingertips with Goggle Alerts. This works great when you have a general topic but not necessarily a specific area to mine. For example, if you think you might want to write about dogs but don’t have any further information, plugging that search term in as a Google Alert ands then setting the time frames to get your responses will send news and articles right to your inbox.
