The Importance of Quality Guest Blogging

Guest blogging is awesome! Unfortunately a ton of people and businesses are taking advantage of it and are basically begging Google to take action against guest bloggers and sites that accept guest posts. Here is the problem… advertisers know guest blogging works well, so instead of “buying links“, they are basically buying guest blog placement on sites that rank well.
I get a bunch of emails everyday for my sites (including this one) with the same usual canned email that says “I found your site interesting and relevant to my content writing… blah blah blah“… then I will take a look at the article and it’s loaded up with a bunch of links.
Sure, some articles need links and when they are references that is fine. However when I see a link in there for “seo design california” or “pay day loans“… it’s obvious these are just paid freelancers trying to make a quick buck.
There is nothing wrong with it (right now). It’s a legitimate business, but just a very scammy and bad business practice.
This is bad for a few reasons…
  1. Links are definitely being sold to sites through guest blogging
  2. Your site could be held responsible for sold links on your site
  3. The content in these article is usually crap and provide no value
Just for these three reasons in itself you should stay away from all of the trash guest blog requests that you might be getting to your blog.

What does Google think of guest blogging?

What does Google think about guest blogging. They are obviously addressing the issue, but right now it is a gray area. You can watch the full video below, but in short they say “if it looks and sounds spammy, it’s probably spammy”.
If you want to submit a guest blog post toBloggingTips.com, that is fine… but it better be of high quality, have a real Google+ author account associate to it and any links within the article must be to relevant sites and resources. I’ve already covered the importance of having a real avatar with comments on this blog. You need to treat all of your efforts online with quality and associating it back to your “real” brand.
Follow these steps for guest blogging on other sites as well as accepting guest blog posts on your site. The only way the guest blogging trash is going to get cleaned up is if we all start taking action together.
